International Vine and Wine City

Mr. Robert Tinlot

On June 15, 1987, at a dinner party to host domestic and foreign wine experts by Yu Zhengsheng, former Mayor of Yantai, Mr. Robert Tinlot, the then president of the International Vine and Wine Office (former name of OIV), bestowed upon Yantai a commemorative medal of “International Vine and Wine Year 1987” on behalf of the organization, crediting Yantai with the title “International Vine and Wine City”.

Changyu 

With the strong support of relevant departments of China and wine experts from home and abroad, the International Vine and Wine Office decided to hold an international wine and brandy tasting session in Yantai on June 15, 1987. Before the meeting, the experts visited the vineyard and wine and brandy production lines of Changyu Company.The experts were greatly impressed by the scale and the nice growth of the vineyards. They also highly praised Changyu wine, brandy and vermouth, which were said to have reached the world’s first-class level. In view of the contribution made by Changyu Company to the world in vineyard construction and wine making, the International Vine and Wine office, which had 33 member states, decided to accept Yantai as the only “International Vine and Wine City” in China.
